His father was part of a growing group of U.S. missionaries who believed that it was their calling to save China through a combination of Christianity, modern science, democracy, and the sorts of freedoms enshrined in the U.S. Constitution. Khrushchev’s foreign policy of pursuing peaceful coexistence with the United States and its allies was a dramatic change from previous leaders’ attitudes. The post –Cold War era is a period of history that follows the end of the Cold War, of the period after 1991 when the USSR collapsed.The era has been marked by increasing globalization, the advancement of the Digital Revolution, the occurrence of the 2007 Great Recession and COVID-19 pandemic, the growing issue of man-made climate change, and the rise of the Second Cold War situation. By the end of that decade, however, there was a major split between China and the Soviet Union, one of China's few supporters in this early phase of the Cold War, due to differences over their efforts in the Korean War (1950–1953), over ideological interpretations of communism, and over the Soviet refusal to share atomic bomb technology.
